I like pork chops. Branden does not like pork chops.
In the last two and a half years that Branden and I have lived together I've become accustomed to cooking according to his tastes. Meat pie is always made with ground beef, mashed potatoes are made with sour cream, baked potatoes are not a main dish and pork-aside from bacon- has been left off the menu. For the most part, I don't mind. I like making meals Branden enjoys and most of his requests are things I already liked or have discovered I like to eat as well.
On the other hand, it can be frustrating. He'll eat one bite of something I made and won't eat the rest because I did something he didn't like. For instance, he won't eat steak stir fry. The only way he'll eat any kind of beef stir fry is if it's been made with ground beef which I find to be not only wrong but also unappetizing. And he won't eat steak or hamburgers that were cooked in a pan. Now that we don't have any place to grill, I only get to eat a steak or a hamburger if we're out to eat.
Well, today I had an epiphany: I won't be cooking for Branden most nights of the week while he has this shift. I can eat whatever I want for dinner. Yes, this means that if I wanna eat cookies and lemonade for dinner then I can. This also means that I can have pork chops, steak, hamburgers, normal beef stir fry... All those things that I've left out of my dinner menus while cooking for him.
I'm still sad to be spending my evenings alone but I'm excited to make foods I like again and try out some recipes that I haven't attempted because I knew Branden wouldn't eat them. :)

ok... cookies and lemonade do not sounds good at all together :) I too like trying new recipes and Austin usually likes but some he doesn't and I feel bad that we have to find something else for him to eat. if you stumble across any good recipes, do share :)
