I never went to prom or any other formal dance. I guess in high school I just wasn't the girl guys wanted to ask and I was too cowardly to go stag. So I've never purchased a formal dress... Until now. Today I purchased my first prom dress ever. It's for a dance, but not the type you may think.
My dress is for the beginning of a dance that couples have been perfecting for centuries. The steps are simple and yet infinitely complicated: Give as much as you take, trust your partner, move forward together, hold each other close, help your partner when they stumble... And many steps that I know nothing about at this time. It's a dance that is not meant to be taken lightly. Those who do, don't make it to the end. I know that you have to work together and even then there will be smashed toes. As long as you can forgive those moments, the dance can be a thing of beauty. I've watched my parents perform such a dance my entire life. They make it seem almost effortless but I know that a lot of work has gone into it.
Today I purchased the dress I will wear on my wedding day.
